program of the workshop will include a reception dinner, visit to Hellisheiši geothermal plant as well as a guided tour to Žingvellir, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland.Hellisheiši Geothermal Plant is situated at Hengill, an active volcanic ridge in SW Iceland. The plant“s
purpose is to meet increasing demand for electricity and hot water for space
heating in the industrial and domestic sectors. Current production capacity is
213 MW (february 2009). Estimated production capacity for the completed
Hellisheiši Plant is 300 MW electricity and 400 MW thermal energy.

| Žingvellir is a place in southwestern Iceland near the peninsula of Reykjanes
and the Hengill volcanic area. Žingvellir is a site of historical,
cultural, and geological importance and is one of the most popular
tourist destinations in Iceland. Žingellir National Park was founded in
1930 to protect the remains of the parliament site and was later
expanded to protect natural phenomena in the surrounding area.
Žingvellir National Park was the first national park in Iceland and was
decreed "a protected national shrine for all Icelanders, the perpetual
property of the Icelandic nation under the preservation of parliament,
never to be sold or mortgaged." Parliament or Alžingi was established
at Žingvellir in 930 and remained there until 1789. Žingvellir is the
site of a rift valle and home to Žingvallavatn the largest natural lake
in Iceland.
