AI Lecture Series Talk- Dr. Stacy Marcella - "Cognition and Emotion in Virtual Humans"

 On Wednesday, November 12th, Dr. Stacy Marsella, ISI, University of Southern California will give an AI Lecture Series talk at 12:00-13:00, in K-5 in Kringlan 1 entitled "Cognition and Emotion in Virtual Humans".

 

Dr. Stacy Marsella says about the lecture:

Virtual humans are autonomous virtual characters that can have a meaningful interaction with human users. They can reason about the environment, understand and express emotion, and communicate using speech and gesture. I will discuss the various application areas of virtual humans in education, health intervention, entertainment, where they can be in the role of a teacher, peer or competitor.  I will then go on to discuss how we design virtual humans with specific focus on the role of computational models of emotions.

 

About the speaker:

Dr. Stacy Marsella is a Research Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southern California and a Project Leader at the Information Sciences Institute, where he heads projects on virtual humans, social simulation, interactive drama, emotions and theory of mind.
