MSc in Electrical Engineering
Overview
Electrical engineering is perhaps the most creative and innovative of all engineering disciplines. Over the past decades, electrical engineers have had a great impact on how we live our lives with inventions such as the personal computer, the mobile phone, immersive computing and broadband communications. A graduate of an electrical engineering has the ability to work on his own projects and inventions, continue on a path of research or be employed by companies that require technical competance and creativity. The electrical engineering programme at Reykjavik University covers two main fields of electrical engineering which are Signals and Systems and CAD for Electrical Engineering.
Signals and Systems
A graduate with this emphasis will be an expert in signal analysis, dynamical systems and stochastic processing. There is a high focus on problem solving through practical work with focus on sensors, digital signal processing and computer programming. The student has an option to include subjects ranging from mathematics and computer science to mechatronics and design engineering.
CAD for Electrical Engineering
The Computer Aided Design (CAD) for Electrical Engineering (EE) specialization aims preparing processionals in development of simulation, modeling, and optimization methods and software for various fields of Electrical Engineering ranging from Electrical Machinery Design to Light-wave/Photonics Component and Circuit Design. The student has an option to choose subjects specifically enhancing his/her educational/professional interests.
Career options
A graduate of electrical engineering has three main options: 1) Get employment within industry, 2) start a company or 3) continue studies towards a research degree. All options are encourged within Reykjavik University. Electrical engineers are highly employable and sought after by industry. Electrical engineers can be found in various technical- and management positions within companies that work on everything from robotics and computer services to communications and information technology.
