Flestir skiptinemar frá Frakklandi og Þýskalandi

Tekið var á móti 172 skiptinemum og 27 erlendum nemendum í fullt nám á sérstökum kynningardegi í HR í dag Var nemendum skipt upp í 7 hópa og fyrir hverjum hópi fóru tveir HR mentorar sem stýrðu dagskrá síns hóps með miklum sóma. 

Hóparnir hlýddu á kynningar sem samanstóðu af örnámskeið í íslensku, fyrirlestri um grænan lífsstíl á Íslandi, erindi frá náms- og starfsráðgjöf og kynnisferðir um skólabygginguna með mentorum sínum. Mentorar eru nemendur Háskólans í Reykjavík sem sækjast eftir aukinni alþjóðlegri reynslu og tengslum við erlenda nemendur HR. Hlutverk þeirra er meðal annars að stuðla að inngildingu (e. inclusion) nýnema sem koma frá öðrum löndum og menningarheimum.  

Áður en skólaárið hófst bauðst nemendum að fá sendan rafrænan upplýsingapakka frá alþjóðaskrifstofu HR.  Einnig voru vefstofur í boði, bæði fyrir nemendur frá Evrópu og einnig fyrir þá sem koma lengra að og þurftu að sækja um vegabréfsáritun og dvalarleyfi.

172 skiptinemar þetta haustið koma frá 28 löndum. Stærstu hóparnir koma frá Evrópu:

•  Spánn: 16
•  Svíþjóð: 16
•  Danmörk: 15
•  Holland: 15
•  Ítalía: 17

 
Nokkuð jöfn skipting er á milli grunn- og framhaldsnáms, 87 stunda skiptinám í BSc-námi og 115 í MSc-námi. Flestir þeirra sóttu um í þessum fjórum deildum þar sem meistaranám er í boði á ensku:   

• Viðskiptadeild: 77
• Verkfræðideild: 50
• Tölvunarfræðideild: 36
• Lagadeild: 19

 Allar akademískar deildir HR bjóða svo upp á nokkur námskeið á BA- og BSc- stigi á ensku á hverju ári sem skiptinemar geta sótt um.  Þá hófu auk skiptinemanna 27 erlendir nemendur fullt nám við HR. Þeir koma frá 15 löndum en langflestir þeirra, eða 18 talsins, eru skráðir í  Iceland School of Energy  innan verkfræðideildar HR. 

Alþjóðaskrifstofa HR  sér um móttöku erlendra nemenda við háskólann.

HR welcomed 172 exchange students and 27 international degree-seeking students 

This year‘s orientation period stretched over a longer period of time than usual. The International Office offered an online mandatory pre-orientation course through Canvas, videos, presentations and quizzes. Students could complete this at their own pace before arrival in Iceland. Students were also offered pre-arrival live sessions.

The more conventional orientation took place on Thursday, August 11 at Reykjavík University. Around 200 students attended and were very happy to be able to gather on campus.

The students attended a crash course in Icelandic, a session on green and sustainable living while in Iceland and a tour of the building.

The RU mentors did a great job in making sure to make the process as smooth as possible. They welcomed the student groups, led them on tours of the building made sure presentations in each classroom were on time and working perfectly. Mentors are Icelandic students at RU whose role is to ensure the inclusion of new students from different countries and cultures.  

The group in numbers

The 172 exchange students this autumn come from 28 countries. 

The largest groups come from Europe:

• Germany: 32

• France: 31

• Spain: 16

• Sweden: 16

• Denmark: 15

• Holland: 15

• Italy: 17

There is a fairly even division between undergraduate and graduate studies: 87 students enrolled in BSc studies and 115 in MSc studies. 

Most of them are in these three departments:

• Department of Business: 77

• Department of Engineering: 50

• Department of Computer Science: 36

• Department of Law 19

These departments all have in common that their MSc programmes are offered in English which explains these numbers. All academic departments offer several courses at BA and BSc levels in English each year available for exchange students to apply for.
