Reykjavik University will be hosting a seminar titled Urban Floods on Monday August 21st at 14:00 in room M208. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Urban Floods

Firstly, I will introduce myself and my research topics, including brief introduction of Tokyo Metropolitan University. Next, I will show some examples of urban floods happened in Metro Manila, the capital of Philippines in 2009, and in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand in 2011. Then, flood disaster situation in Japan, especially urban floods in Tokyo, the capital of Japan will be described. In addition, various comprehensive urban flood control measures including both structural and non-structural ones will be explained. Finally, I will briefly introduce a vector-based detailed distributed storm runoff model -Tokyo Storm Runoff (TSR) model-, which has been developed by my laboratory utilizing urban landscape GIS delineation technique.
