Framgangsfyrirlestur / Inaugural lecture - Ólafur Eysteinn Sigurjónsson

Ólafur Eysteinn Sigurjónsson flytja fyrirlestur í tilefni af framgangi hans til stöðu prófessors við tækni- og verkfræðideild Háskólans í Reykjavík þriðjudaginn 5. september kl. 14:30 í stofu M209.

Professor Ólafur Eysteinn Sigurjónsson will give his inaugural lecture Tuesday September 5th at 2:30 pm in room M209.

Er hægt að verða prófessor við tækni- og verkfræðideild án þess að kunna örsmæðareikning?

Is it possible to become a professor at a school of scicene and engineering without knowing calculus?

 

Professor Sigurjonsson finished a B.Sc. degree in molecular biology from the University of Iceland in 1998 and a M.Sc. degree in health sciences from the same university in 2001. He graduated with a PhD in stem cell biology and immunology from the University of Oslo in 2006. Professor Sigurjonsson is the director of research and development and stem cell processing at the Blood bank, The Landspitali University Hospital and is an adjunct professor at the School of Health Sciences University of Iceland. Professor Sigurjonsson is the co-founder and CSO of Platome biotechnologies.  Professor Sigurjonson is the current president of the Scandinavians Society of biomaterials. His research is within the field of regenerative medicine with a focus on developing methods for ex vivo culture of stem cells for clinical use and the use of tissue engineering and biomaterial sciences for bone development. He also does research with the field of transfusion medicine with the focus on understanding the formation of storage lesions in platelets and red blood cells and how pathogen reduction may affect those processes.  

There will be a reception after the lecture.
