Title: Fractional Chern Insulator on Lieb lattice
Abstract
Fractional Chern Insulator (FCI) is a novel quantum phase which potentially allows to exhibit fractional quantum Hall effect without magnetic field. To be capable of hosting FCI, a system should have an energy band which resembles a Landau level: is flat and topologically nontrivial. Numerical calculations show that FCI exists on many simple lattice models (e.g. checkerboard and kagome lattices). Here, we propose another candidate system for FCI, the Lieb lattice. By investigation of energy spectrum, spectral flow and quasihole excitations we show that FCI phase exists on the Lieb lattice for a wide range of tight-binding and interaction parameters. Also, we find that strong sublattice asymmetry leads to unusual, non-uniform electron density pattern.
