TITLE: Barbara Liskov: The Power and the Glory of Abstraction
SPEAKER: Luca Aceto
ABSTRACT: Barbara Liskov (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbara_Liskov) received the 2008 Turing Award from the ACM
For contributions to practical and theoretical foundations of programming language and system design, especially related to data abstraction, fault tolerance, and distributed computing.
Her work has been instrumental in the design of programming languages and software methodology that led to the development of object-oriented programming.
In this talk, apart from giving an overview of her main contributions, I will try to highlight a common thread in her work, namely the power that abstraction has in computer science as a way of taming complexity.
