Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is a learning design framework that promotes flexibility, inclusivity, accessibility and the provision of an equal opportunity to succeed to all learners. At its heart, UDL emphasises that "one size does NOT fit all" when it comes to designing our teaching, learning and assessment.
In his presentation, Kevin will provide an in-depth look at how De Montfort University (DMU) adopted Universal Design for Learning as its institution-wide approach to learning, teaching, and assessment. Specifically, the presentation will provide the context and background for DMU's move to UDL, as well as providing an in-depth look at how a clear, strategic plan was put together to support institution wide UDL adoption, including communications plan and critical workstreams. Focus will be given to how learning, teaching, and assessment practices were developed as part of a Teaching Practice workstream, including the creation, and embedding of the Cheese Sandwich approach to supporting student learning.
NB: For those new to UDL, a clear definition of UDL including important related concepts such as learner variability will be included.
