A year full of memorable experience ahead

The Reykjavík University Student Union (SFHR) has announced the election of Særún Björk Jónasdóttir as its new president for the 2025–2026 academic year. SFHR serves as the official body representing student interests at Reykjavík University (RU). The president is elected annually and participates in the university’s executive board meetings, as well as serving on the board of the Representative Council of the National Union of Icelandic Students.

Joining Særún on the 2025–2026 board are:

  • Kristján Pétur Barðason – Vice President
  • Kristinn Halldórsson – Treasurer
  • Valgerður Eyja Eyþórsdóttir – Student Rights Representative
  • Agnes Helga Gísladóttir – Marketing Representative
  • Rúnar Gauti Gunnarsson – Communications Representative
  • Orri Thor Eggertsson – Committee Representative

The union’s key priorities this year include defending student rights, lowering tuition fees, supporting student organisations, and strengthening the university’s social life through diverse events and increased participation. Særún says;

We’re committed to making tuition more affordable, hosting a variety of engaging events for all students, and encouraging active involvement in student life. Our team has been preparing all summer, and we can’t wait to unveil this year’s programme. It’s going to be a year full of memorable experiences and exciting opportunities for the entire RU community.
