Scholarships and grants
Presidential List
Students who achieve outstanding academic results each semester may qualify for the Presidential List, which includes a waiver of tuition fees for the following semester.
- Students must complete at least 30 ECTS credits in a semester. Specific rules apply to students in Applied Engineering and Applied Civil Engineering; details can be found on the department's webpage.
- Only results from first-time exams in each course count toward the average grade; retake exams are excluded.
Undergraduate Scholarships
New Student Scholarship
- Awarded to incoming undergraduate students with exceptional academic performance in secondary school.
- Covers tuition fees for the first semester.
- Recipients are selected by an internal committee at RU, and no application is required.
Natural Science Award
- Granted to one student per secondary school who achieves the best results in natural sciences on their matriculation exams.
- Covers tuition fees for the first semester.
Athletic Scholarships
- Up to three scholarships are awarded to elite athletes pursuing a BSc in Sport Science.
- Covers tuition fees for up to six semesters.
Student Innovation Fund
- Provides funding for students to work on ambitious research projects during the summer.
- Grants are awarded to university professors, research institutions, companies, or individuals with expertise in specific fields.
Graduate Scholarships
Presidential Grant
- Offers partial tuition waivers, reducing fees to undergraduate tuition levels for master’s students who maintain strong academic performance and full-time enrollment.
Sport Science Scholarships
- Offered in collaboration with sports federations and clubs, such as the Icelandic Football Association (KSÍ) and others.
- Includes funded master’s positions with opportunities for applied research and consulting.

Alan Turing Scholarship (Computer Science)
- Covers all tuition fees for the duration of the master’s program for students with strong academic performance and full-time enrollment.
Engineering Scholarships
- Students applying for master’s programs in the School of Engineering may qualify for full or partial tuition waivers based on academic excellence in their undergraduate studies.
Business & Economics Scholarships
- Awarded to top-performing students in master’s programs within the Department of Business.
Law Scholarships
- Awarded to the best-performing students in the master’s program in the Department of Law.
- LOGOS Law Firm Award: A special award for the student with the highest combined grades in BA and ML studies.
Námssjóður Sameinaðra verktaka
- Provides tuition scholarships for students in engineering, applied engineering, and computer science.
- Scholarships are intended for students completing their first degree (BSc) and pursuing further studies (MSc or PhD) at RU or other universities.
- Applications are assessed based on academic performance, initiative, and involvement in activities for RU.
Specialized Scholarships
Siminn Social Fund for Women and Non-Binary Students
- Awards scholarships to five women or non-binary students starting studies in technology fields.
- Covers tuition fees for the first academic year as part of a five-year initiative to increase diversity in tech.
- Selection criteria include academic performance, extracurricular activities, and volunteer work.
- Application deadline: June 30th.
Landsbanki Incentive Scholarship
- Two scholarships for students with a mother tongue other than Icelandic, aiming to equalize access to education at RU.
- Covers tuition fees for the first year of undergraduate studies.
- Selection is based on academic performance, diversity, and extracurricular involvement.
- Application deadline: June 30th.

Application Guidelines
- Applications should be submitted via email to skrifstofa-rektors@ru.is, with the scholarship name in the subject line.
- Required documents typically include:
- A cover letter (maximum 500 words).
- A recommendation letter from a teacher or counselor.
- A transcript of academic records.
