Rules on submission of final theses at RU
Rules regarding Final Projects
- These rules apply to final projects, final theses, and doctoral dissertations (hereafter collectively referred to as final projects) submitted by students in undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes.
- Undergraduate and master’s students in all departments of the University shall submit an electronic copy (PDF) of their final project to the digital repository Skemman (skemman.is).
- Doctoral students shall publish their final project (dissertation or articles with a cover document) in academic journals and submit an electronic copy (PDF) of their work to IRIS (https://iris.ru.is/). Please take care to ensure that submission to IRIS does not violate the terms and conditions of the relevant academic journal.
- Reykjavík University encourages students to make their final projects openly accessible in the respective repository unless one or more of the following conditions apply:
i. Publication would violate data protection laws.
ii. The final project contains confidential or sensitive business information, such as business ideas, product descriptions, inventions, or other material that may be commercially exploited or subject to patent applications.
iii. Publication would violate the terms of an agreement that grants access to data.
iv. Publication would breach the conditions of an academic journal.
v. Articles based on the final project are in the process of being published.
vi. There is a dispute among the authors regarding publication. - A student who wishes to restrict access to their final project must submit a required form in Skemman (save the request as a PDF and upload it as a separate file to the repository).
- The formatting and presentation of final projects shall comply with the rules and guidelines set by the relevant academic department.
