Important to Experience as Much as Possible and Enjoy Every Moment
As the academic year begins, both new and returning students are arriving at Reykjavik University. We spoke with Særún Björk Jónasdóttir, President of the RU Student Association (SFHR), who offered students some valuable advice for the coming semester and shared what’s ahead in student life.
I encourage students to enjoy being in uni, take an active part in university life, and use their time here to get to know fellow students, teachers, and staff. Of course, studies are important, but don’t forget to enjoy them as well. Time here goes by quickly, so take every opportunity that comes your way, experience as much as you can, and enjoy every moment.
Særún Björk Jónasdóttir is the new President of SFHR.
Særún also points out the value of making use of RU’s facilities and attending events, which are a great way to meet classmates:
The Sun and the library are excellent places to study, whether in a group or quietly on your own. I also recommend using the lunch break to enjoy a good meal at Málið—whether it’s the daily special or the salad bar. And of course, join a student club and attend events.
Særún says that the people you meet at RU—both fellow students and staff—are a major part of what makes the university such a great place. Communication with teachers is exceptionally good, and student life at RU is vibrant and varied.
What I like best about being an RU student is the combination of an active social life, good communication, and a warm environment. At RU, you form connections, friendships, and support networks that last far beyond your studies. The environment itself is inspiring—good facilities and a creative atmosphere where there’s always room for ideas and initiative.
