Kristín Edwald joins the Department of Law at Reykjavik University
Kristín Edwald, one of Iceland’s most experienced litigators, has joined the Department of Law at Reykjavik University (HR). She has extensive experience pleading cases before the District Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Iceland.
Kristín comes to RU from the law firm LEX, where she began working in 2002. She is regarded as one of the country’s leading experts in insurance law and tort law, and she has also provided wide-ranging legal counsel to corporate boards and executives in company law, contract law, and obligations law.

A graduate of the University of Iceland’s Faculty of Law in 1997, Kristín qualified as a District Court attorney in 1998 and as a Supreme Court attorney in 2005.
She has previously taught as an adjunct at the Department of Law and has long instructed courses preparing students for litigation rights before the District Court. Beyond academia, she has served on company boards, been chair of the Icelandic Lawyers’ Association, vice-chair of the Bar Association, and held various public trust positions.
Kristín traces her early interest in law back to her time at Verzlunarskóli Íslands (Verzló), where legal studies were part of the curriculum. She explains;
Law fascinated me from the start. It touches so many aspects of daily life and provides an excellent foundation for a wide range of careers.
This autumn, Kristín will be teaching courses in Property Law I, Contract Law, and an Introduction to the General Part of Obligations Law. She says she is excited about the year ahead:
I’m really looking forward to the coming semester at RU. I’m excited to immerse myself in academia and the subject matter. The most rewarding part of teaching is the interaction with students and being part of the fantastic group that makes up the faculty here.
To conclude, we asked Kristín to give advice to law students for the coming term.
Be organized, keep up with the coursework consistently, and take an active part in class.
