Business Administration -with a minor in Computer Science BSc
What do I learn?
Taught in Icelandic. Proficiency in Icelandic is a requirement.
This study programme integrates Business Administration and Computer Science, aiming to equip students with management and technical skills. Graduates receive their degrees from the Department of Business and Economics.
Upon completion of the programme, students will have knowledge of:
- Apply and integrate critical theories, concept models, applications, and quantitative and qualitative methods in the vital areas of business administration: accounting, finance, marketing, management, and economics.
- Apply critical and creative thinking to analyse and propose solutions to local, national and international business issues.
- Act upon opportunities and ideas to create social and/or cultural and/or financial value for yourself and others, locally, nationally and internationally.
- Think, plan and act in a manner consistent with the principles and values of ERS and global citizenship.
- Lead, manage or work with a range of stakeholders to foster and nurture impactful relationships that are mutually beneficial.
- Communicate clearly, constructively, compassionately and interculturally appropriately (verbally and in writing) in various academic, social and professional contexts.
- Confidently and critically use Information Society Technology (IST) for professional, communicative and collaborative purposes.
- Pursue and persist in academic and professional development through effective time and information management, individually and in groups.
- Methods used for data analysis and processing.
- Fundamental software development principles include software analysis, design, programming, and testing.
- How to develop different software systems within professional fields.
- Practical applications in IT, including information management and intelligent systems.
Teaching methods
Students engage in diverse learning methods, for example, lectures, workshops, and group work, and they can collaborate in interdisciplinary teams. This prepares them for the business world and provides the skills to start their own businesses. The Department of Business and Economics aims to strengthen students' entrepreneurial skills while providing a strong academic foundation in key business areas.
Courses in English
The third year is taught in English, preparing students for postgraduate studies and careers in an international environment.
Guest lecturers
Each year, 60–80 guest lecturers from the business and IT industries participate in teaching.
Internship
Undergraduate business students can apply to earn credits through an internship programme, offering a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience and prepare for the challenges faced by business professionals in the workforce.
Career
Business graduates have diverse career opportunities in both the private and public sectors, particularly in IT companies and technology-driven businesses.
Further studies
This programme provides a strong foundation for postgraduate studies in Business Administration and Information Management.
The programme is extremely challenging, fun and interesting. The assignments align with projects out in the industry; therefore, the studies are very good preparation for the business world. The environment, the school and the staff make you always feel good despite the difficult days of studying.
Computer science is a mixture of math, art, and languages. Everything happens so quickly, and so much is going on that you have endless creative opportunities within the field.

Students complete:
- 126 ECTS in Business Administration
- 54 ECTS in Computer Science
Detailed breakdown:
- 108 ECTS in core subjects (18 courses)
- 54 ECTS in the minor subject (9 courses)
- 6 ECTS in electives (1 three-week course)
- 12 ECTS final project
Typically, students take five 6 ECTS credit courses per semester and one 1 ECTS credit course in Personal Development (31 ECTS), which is considered a full-time study load. Four 6 ECTS courses in addition to the 1 ECTS course are taught over 12 weeks, followed by an exam period. After exams, students take three-week intensive courses, where the course material is applied in a practical context through project work, group work, and/or collaboration with companies.

As part of the undergraduate programme in Business and Economics, students take six 1-ECTS credit courses under the theme Success in Studies and Careers (Personal Development). These courses include:

The goal of these courses is to further prepare students for the job market and future studies.

Starting in the Spring Semester
Applications are not open for mid-year entry. Exceptions may be made for students already enrolled at Reykjavík University who wish to transfer and meet the admission criteria for Business Administration. Transfers from other universities with prior business studies may also be considered. For further information, students should contact the programme coordinator.
