Intellectual property and start-ups

Policies

Reykjavik University emphasises supporting innovation and ensuring that intellectual property created within the University is utilised in the best possible way. By clarifying the ownership, protection, and utilisation of intellectual property, RU aims to foster an environment that encourages creativity, innovation, and the creation of value.

RU Intellectual Property Rights Policy provides employees with clear instructions on how to manage intellectual property created during research. The policy ensures that both the University and its staff benefit from the development of new knowledge, while also ensuring that intellectual property is utilised responsibly and beneficially for the greater good of society.

RU Start-up Policy creates a framework for support and clarifies the arrangements for the establishment of RU start-up companies. If an employee decides to start a start-up company in collaboration with RU, the person/company receives various forms of support, such as flexibility, facilities, and advice. Additionally, Auðna TTO assists in developing a business idea and establishes relationships with experts and investors. The above can make it easier for start-up companies to take the first steps in their journey. With its start-up policy, RU aims to encourage research and innovation that lead to real solutions delivering social and economic benefits. Here is more information about RU start-ups.

RU employees are encouraged to familiarise themselves with these policies and take advantage of the support available.
