About RU

Do you want to found a company?

Reykjavik University supports employees who want to develop business ideas based on their research and start RU start-up companies. The RU Start-up Policy creates a framework for start-up companies established in collaboration with RU.

If an RU employee decides to establish a start-up company that, for example, utilises knowledge, research, or projects that have been carried out within the University, the employee must notify the RU Intellectual Property Council of the proposed establishment. Generally, RU acquires a 10% ownership stake in start-up companies. The University's contribution to the company includes, among other things, flexibility for employees to work on the start-up company, access to facilities and equipment, utilisation of knowledge and projects not covered by the Intellectual Property Policy, exclusive licences for a fair license fee, and access to certain services.

RU owns shares in six companies: 3Z, Careflux, DTE, Heila Labs, Tiro, and Videntifier. More information about these companies can be found below.
