The MSc Sustainable Energy Engineering is a two-year, 120 ECTS degree. Students normally complete approximately 30 ECTS each semester through a combination of required courses, specialization courses, electives and thesis research.

In Iceland, completing a 180 ECTS BSc in engineering followed by a 120 ECTS MSc may qualify graduates for the protected professional title verkfræðingur, subject to Icelandic regulatory requirements. International students should check professional-recognition requirements in the country where they intend to work.

ISE students study at Reykjavík University, with access to engineering laboratories, workshops and research facilities that support coursework, projects and MSc thesis work.
The programme is designed primarily for applicants with a bachelor’s degree in Energy Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
Typical backgrounds include mechanical, electrical, chemical, civil, industrial, energy and related engineering disciplines.
Applicants from other academic backgrounds may also be considered if their previous studies provide the required mathematics, science and engineering foundation.
