Brain Awareness Week at Reykjavík University • March 16–22

Reykjavík University invites the public to a week of events in celebration of International Brain Awareness Week, March 16–22. The program highlights the importance of brain research and promotes education on brain health and brain fitness.

Wednesday, March 18

Student Presentations

10:10–11:50 — Sólin

Students from the courses Thinking, Memory and Language and Cognitive Neuroscience present their research projects. Topics include:

  • consequences of brain injury
  • effects of exercise on brain function
  • relationship between the digestive system and the brain

Open to all; presentations are designed for public education.

Lecture: Neuropsychology of Burnout

12:00–13:00 — Room M104

Guðrún Rakel Eiríksdóttir, clinical psychologist and doctoral student, discusses what happens when the brain “burns out” and how burnout appears from a neuropsychological perspective. Event on Facebook

Friday, March 20

Lecture: Women’s Mental Health Across Life

12:00–13:00 — Room V102

Donghao Lu, associate professor at Karolinska Institutet, explores how women’s mental health evolves across the lifespan, from menstruation to menopause.

Saturday, March 21

Brain Workshop for Children

11:00–16:00 — Höfuðstöðin

In collaboration with the Department of Psychology at RU, children will learn about the brain, examine anatomical models, and create their own brain model. The workshop is led by Mária K. Jónsdóttir, neuropsychologist and professor, together with psychology students. Every child takes home their brain model and receives a brain‑themed eraser.
