Dr. Andri Fannar Bergþórsson Appointed Professor at Reykjavík University’s Department of Law

Dr. Andri Fannar Bergþórsson has been promoted to the position of Professor at the Department of Law at Reykjavík University. He joined the faculty as a full-time member in 2017 and has since been actively engaged in teaching and research, in addition to contributing significantly to the internal affairs of the department. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in September 2021.

The evaluation committee consisted of Professor Dr. Margrét Einarsdóttir, Professor Dr. Valgerður Sólnes, and Attorney Dr. Finnur Magnússon.

Dr. Andri Fannar has published, either individually or collaboratively, 20 peer-reviewed scholarly articles. In addition, he has authored two peer-reviewed academic books—one of which is based on his doctoral dissertation and was published by a respected international publisher, while the other was published in Iceland in collaboration with co-author Aðalsteinn E. Jónasson. His academic work includes foundational research in the fields of securities law and financial market regulation. According to the evaluation, Dr. Andri Fannar's research is not only of considerable academic significance but also highly relevant to the business sector and society at large. This is particularly evident in his studies on market abuse and insider trading. He has also actively disseminated his research findings to a broader audience through, among other means, newspaper articles.

The evaluation further states that Dr. Andri Fannar is currently the leading expert in Iceland in the field of securities law and, more broadly, financial market regulation. He is also recognised as a key authority in these areas within the Nordic region, having established a strong professional network through participation in Nordic collaborative networks focused on securities and corporate law.

Dr. Andri Fannar has extensive teaching experience at the university level, having taught consistently since 2011 and in a full-time capacity at the Reykjavík University School of Law since 2017. He has also taught courses at the University of Copenhagen Faculty of Law and at the University of Iceland during this period.
