Reykjavík University and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs sign a cooperation agreement on development cooperation

Reykjavík University (RU) and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen collaboration in international development cooperation. The agreement supports research, capacity-building, and the development of expertise in fields related to development cooperation, in line with the Ministry’s priorities under Iceland’s international development cooperation policy.

On this occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir met with Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, President of Reykjavík University, and Silja Bára R. Ómarsdóttir, Rector of the University of Iceland. The agreement places particular emphasis on research that develops practical solutions and methods applicable in the field, increases the visibility of academic disciplines supporting development cooperation, and promotes the use of research-based knowledge through targeted research and development projects.

The agreement places emphasis on research that develops practical solutions and methodologies applicable in the field, increases the visibility of academic disciplines that support development cooperation, and promotes the application of knowledge derived from scientific research, including through support for research and development projects.

The RU Development Cooperation Fund is an open, competitive fund that supports research and development projects focused on knowledge transfer to low-income countries on the OECD-DAC list. The fund aims to strengthen RU’s international partnerships, foster innovation in development contexts, and contribute knowledge in support of human rights, sustainability, and peace. Calls for applications are issued annually.
