Seminar on the Role of European University Networks

On 14 October at 13:00, a seminar will be held at the Nordic House on the benefits and challenges of European university networks for students, staff, universities, and society at large. Across Europe, increasing emphasis is being placed on deeper collaboration between universities, supported through the funding of European university alliances.

These networks are designed to foster innovation in teaching and research in response to rapid societal change and the complex challenges of today. By doing so, they aim to promote sustainable development and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness.

Four Icelandic universities each participate in one of the 65 European University Alliances. The universities are jointly hosting a seminar to discuss the benefits and challenges of these alliances for students, staff, the universities themselves, and society at large.

The seminar is organised in collaboration with the Erasmus+ National Agency in Iceland and the Ministry of Culture, Innovation and Higher Education.

Dr Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, President of Reykjavik University, and Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, will take part in panel discussions on behalf of Reykjavik University. The event is open to all.

A NerutechEU conference was held at Reykjavik University this spring.

Reykjavík University is a member of the NeurotechEU university network, part of the European Union’s European University Initiative under Erasmus+.

For RU, participation in such a large and strategic alliance presents significant opportunities: from shaping future teaching methods and advancing research collaborations for faculty and PhD students, to expanding exchange and internship options for RU students with partner universities across Europe.

The aim of NeurotechEU is to strengthen Europe’s position in technology and neuroscience through strong research collaboration, while also giving students the opportunity to pursue education in the field across multiple universities and in several languages.
By working with leading universities, we benefit not only from a wider range of courses and study programmes but also from the sharing of experience, expertise, and best practices.

Dr Ragnhildur Helgadóttir
President of Reykjavik University

This video features Þorbjörn Rami Aaro Joukhi, Computer Science student, and Guðlaug Matthildur Jakobsdóttir, Director of International Office, who share their experiences of participating in the NeurotechEU university network.
