The Department of Law and the Department of Computer Science Launch Collaboration in AI and Cybersecurity

The Department of Law and the Department of Computer Science at Reykjavik University announce a shared commitment to increased collaboration in the fields of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. This partnership is founded on a common vision of the importance of strengthening knowledge, education, and research in these areas, which are becoming increasingly vital for the security of individuals, communities, and nations.

The primary focus will be on developing knowledge and solutions related to AI and cybersecurity, with particular emphasis on the responsible training and use of AI, as well as on protection against cyberattacks and other digital threats. The collaboration will also encompass areas such as data protection, privacy, and information technology more broadly—fields that require both technical and legal expertise.

In terms of education, the departments plan to develop joint courses that draw on the unique strengths and specializations of each. They will also seek to integrate their knowledge into existing courses, providing students with a deeper and more holistic understanding of these diverse topics.

In research, the departments aim to increase collaboration in the supervision of master’s and doctoral students, support joint research projects, and strengthen connections between their respective research centers in AI and cybersecurity.

The collaboration will also focus on strengthening ties with industry and the wider community in these fields. The departments believe these issues are crucial for the future security of society and are committed to raising awareness, promoting education, and developing solutions that contribute to a safer digital world.
