The first episode of Frostkastið podcast released
Frostkastið podcast is produced by computer science students at Reykjavík University and is part of the Frostbyte Research Centre, supported by the Defend Iceland project. The aim of the podcast is to provide education and information about cybersecurity in Icelandic for the general public.
The podcast is hosted by Vigdís Helga Eyjólfsdóttir, and new episodes will be released every two weeks. The first two episodes are already available on Spotify. The idea for the podcast came from Jacqueline Clare Mallett, a lecturer at the Department of Computer Science, who approached Vigdís about taking on the project. Vigdís Helga says she is pleased to contribute to the public discussion on cybersecurity:

I felt there was a great lack of awareness about cybersecurity in society. I also thought I could learn a lot from this opportunity, so I said yes. I’ve also seen through my work at Frostbyte that there’s a real shortage of information in Icelandic about computer and cybersecurity, so I’m happy to be able to contribute to the discussion.
Vigdís Helga says the production has gone very well, thanks to an excellent team and good collaboration with the Reykjavík University staff involved with the studio. Great guests have already joined the show — including students, teachers, and others — and more experts are scheduled to appear in future episodes.
When asked for one solid, foolproof tip people can use in their daily lives to improve their online security, Vigdís Helga says:
I think one of the most important things you can do is to enable two-factor authentication on everything — especially your email, since it’s usually linked to most of your accounts. I also recommend listening to the episode ‘Everything You Need to Know About Passwords’, where we discuss this topic and password security in general in detail.
