The team Taktíkin won Vitinn this year
The final day of Vitinn, an innovative competition organised by Reykjavík University and Fisheries Iceland (SFS) that focuses on developing and implementing solutions for companies in the seafood industry, took place on Saturday, February 14. The winning team, Taktíkin, consists of Berglind Hrönn Úlfarsdóttir and Brynhildur Lilja Kristjánsdóttir, law students, and Eiður Áki Arnarsson and Matthías Jens Ármann, economics and finance students. As an award, the team will travel to Barcelona this spring.

This year’s Vitinn challenge tasked students with marketing Icelandic salmon in the Spanish market. The challenge was presented by Iceland Seafood, and the project brief was designed by Valdimar Sigurðsson, Professor in the Department of Business and Economics. Time was limited, as teams had only four days to develop and implement their solutions, making the challenge even more exciting.

Valuable Experience in Turning an Idea into Something Tangible
The team members say that through their participation, they gained valuable experience in transforming an idea and vision into something tangible. They created packaging prototypes, which were particularly well received by the judging panel. It was also a rewarding experience to collaborate across departments, meet new people, and learn new approaches. Team bonding was a strong focus for the group, and they plan to continue refining their idea and strengthening their teamwork before heading to Barcelona in March.
As their prize, the winners will travel to Barcelona with representatives from RU, where they will have a unique opportunity to follow the product through the entire value chain—from export to distribution, sales, and ultimately to consumers’ plates. Visits to partners, suppliers, retail stores, and restaurants will provide valuable insight into the full value chain in a real-world setting.
The teams presented their solutions to a judging panel consisting of Dr Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, Dean of the School of Social Sciences at RU; Valdimar Sigurðsson, Professor in the Department of Business and Economics at RU; Steinar Þór Ólafsson from SFS; and Neil Shiran Þórisson, representing Iceland Seafood.
Nine teams competed this year: Knarrarós, KOST, Haf-Lausnir, Vitanlega, Taktíkin, LP Simplex, STRAUMUR, Arctic Revolution, and Norðurperlurnar.
Vitinn has been held annually since 2015 and is open to all RU students across departments, at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The competition focuses on developing and implementing solutions for companies in the seafood industry.
