Ágúst Valfells
Energy Systems, Engineering and Applied Research
Ágúst Valfells is an engineer and researcher with a background in mechanical and nuclear engineering. His work spans plasma physics, geothermal resource use and broader energy-system questions, giving him a perspective that connects fundamental engineering science with applied challenges in sustainable energy.

Since joining Reykjavík University, Ágúst has also contributed to the development of graduate education in sustainable energy and the growth of the Iceland School of Energy. His work has helped connect engineering research, teaching and the wider questions that shape how energy systems are designed and used.
Connecting Fundamental Science with Energy Challenges
Ágúst’s research includes electron-beam dynamics, plasma and vacuum phenomena, as well as approaches to the sustainable use of geothermal resources. Although these areas can look very different, they share a common focus on understanding complex physical systems and using that knowledge to solve engineering problems.
Through teaching and graduate supervision, he has worked with students across engineering and sustainable energy, helping them connect technical methods with larger questions around energy systems, resource use and innovation.
