Ármann Gylfason

Wind Energy, Fluid Mechanics and Applied Engineering

Ármann Gylfason is an engineer and researcher whose work focuses on fluid mechanics, turbulence and wind energy. With a background in mechanical and aerospace engineering, his research combines experimental work, numerical modelling and high-speed imaging to better understand how air and fluids behave in complex engineering systems.

At Reykjavík University, Ármann has worked extensively with wind-tunnel experimentation and research into wind-turbine performance, including how turbines respond to challenging environmental conditions. His work connects fundamental engineering science with practical questions around renewable-energy technologies and system performance.

Connecting Research and Teaching

Alongside his research, Ármann has taught engineering at undergraduate and graduate level and supervised students working across fluid mechanics, wind energy and related fields. His role in teaching and research gives ISE students access to expertise that links classroom theory with experimental methods and applied engineering problems.

He also collaborates internationally with researchers in Europe and the United States, bringing a broader research perspective into the university environment and helping connect student work with wider developments in engineering and renewable energy.
