Juliet Newson

Juliet Newson has worked across many parts of the geothermal sector, including geological mapping, reservoir and wellbore modelling, resource evaluation and geothermal education. Her career has combined technical work, university teaching and international leadership, giving her a broad view of how geothermal knowledge moves between research, industry and practice.

Before joining Reykjavík University, Juliet worked in New Zealand as a geothermal reservoir modelling engineer with Contact Energy and collaborated closely with researchers at the University of Auckland. She also helped develop postgraduate geothermal education there, including the Postgraduate Certificate in Geothermal Energy Technology.

Building Geothermal Knowledge Across Borders

Juliet has also played a significant role in international geothermal education and professional development. She served as President of the International Geothermal Association and previously chaired its Education Committee, while also contributing to geothermal short courses and training activities around the world.

Her work has consistently reflected a strong belief in education as a driver of progress in the energy sector, alongside an interest in creating more inclusive opportunities within renewable energy. At ISE, that combination of technical expertise, teaching experience and international perspective has helped connect students with the wider geothermal community.
