Practical Information
Accommodation in Reykjavik
There are many hotels in and around Reykjavik; booking rooms in Reykjavik can be difficult due to the many visitors to Iceland; we highly recommend booking your hotel room as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Participants are responsible for the reservation and payment of their accommodation. Below is a list of hotels located conveniently for the university, but please feel free to explore other options.
In October, the average price for a hotel room in Reykjavik, Iceland, varies based on the hotel's rating and amenities. Depending on your budget and the type of accommodation you prefer, you can expect to spend anywhere from $87 to over $260 per night for a hotel room in Reykjavik in October.
Getting to Reykjavik
When you arrive in Iceland, you will land at the International Airport in Keflavik, approximately a 45-minute drive from Reykjavik. Iceland has no train services, so you can take the bus or a taxi or rent a car to get to the city. A taxi can be picked up outside the main arrivals lounge.
By Bus
The Flybus is operated in connection with all arriving and departing flights at Keflavik airport. Buses depart 35-40 minutes after each flight arrival and are outside the terminal. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Flybus desk in the arrivals lounge. A return ticket from the airport to Reykjavik costs 3500 ISK, FlyBus also offers a Hotel Drop off and Pick up service, a return ticket with hotel drop off and pick up costs 4500 ISK.
Reykjavik University: Getting to the campus
Set in one of the most beautiful areas of Reykjavik, right next to Iceland's only geothermal beach; our campus can be reached by bus, road or one of the many beautiful walking paths that lead to the university. By bus
The Reykjavik bus company, Straeto, operates the number 8 bus that serves the RU. The University is marked Nauthólsvík - HR, and the bus stops at the main bus BSÍ, where connecting buses can be picked up.
You will need to have the exact change when entering the bus. If you are taking more than one bus, please ensure you ask for a ticket, which entitles you to ride the buses for the next hour.
By car
There is free parking at the University except in zones A1- A3, which must be paid per hour from 08:00-16:00 on working days.
By foot or bike
There are exceptional walking and cycling paths to the university, which take you along the forest or coastal paths.

Enjoying Reykjavik and Iceland
The RU International Visiting Week also allows participants to explore Reykjavik and Iceland, and we strongly encourage you to use this opportunity to see some of our amazing countries. There are many things to see and do, both in Reykjavik and the surrounding area, and day trips to some of Iceland´s amazing sights can be easily organised.
Things to do in Reykjavik
- Try a relaxing soak in one of the city-heated geothermal outdoor swimming pools
- Visit the newly constructed Harpa concert hall and be amazed at this outstanding piece of architecture that has attracted visitors from all over the world.
- Try some of Iceland´s famous Hot dogs at Baejarins Bestu (even Bill Clinton could not miss out on trying this)
- Visit Hallgrimskirkja church and take the elevator to the top to check out the panoramic view of downtown Reykjavik.
- Visit Perlan, a landmark building in Reykjavik, where a revolving restaurant has been placed on top of the city's hot water storage tanks. Perlan also provides a breathtaking view of the city if you step onto the 360-degree balcony.
- Go dip in Iceland´s only geothermal heated beach, next to the university.
- Check out the traditional flea market, Kolaportið, held every weekend.
- Finally, no trip to Reykjavik can be complete without checking out downtown Reykjavik's unique cafes and culture.
