A diverse programme on RU Sustainability Day

Sustainability Day at Reykjavík University took place on Wednesday, October 29.

The programme began with presentations in Sólin, where partners and sponsors of SIF (The Sustainability Institute & Forum at Reykjavik University), Landsvirkjun, and Landsnet presented their efforts in support of increased sustainability, with an emphasis on circular thinking. As per usual, Sorpa’s second-hand free shop was open, and Freyr Eyjólfsson, project manager of communications at Sorpa, led students through a KAHOOT quiz competition on the circular economy.

The activities of Humble, a startup that has developed an app aimed at reducing food waste, were also introduced.
Dr Snjólaug Árnadóttir, Associate Professor at the Department of Law and Director of CLoCCS, led a panel discussion.

At noon, a seminar was held by the Centre for Law on Climate Change and Sustainability (CLoCCS) titled Climate Action: Where Does the Responsibility Lie? The Commitments of the Icelandic State in the Field of Climate Issues. Experts from the university and the business sector discussed the main commitments of the Icelandic government in climate affairs, with particular emphasis on the contribution and responsibility of companies in the fight against the climate crisis.
