An agreement signed between RU and Student Association of Reykjavik University

An agreement has been signed between Reykjavík University and SFHR, the RU Student Association, regarding funding for SFHR. The grant is intended to further strengthen SFHR's important activities.

Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, Assistant Rector for Academic Affairs, Students, and Sustainability, says that the work of SFHR and its collaboration with the university are key to creating a motivating, supportive, and professional learning environment and to promoting student satisfaction. The agreement clearly defines the responsibilities and tasks of the parties and, among other things, ensures student participation in the university’s councils and committees, as well as student involvement in strategic discussions that affect students and their learning environment.

Members of SFHR serve as the voice of students within the university and on matters concerning student interests. The association organises events that enhance student social life and well-being, helps ensure that new students adapt well to the university community, and publishes Háskólablaðið during the academic year.

From SFHR’s perspective, special emphasis is placed on ensuring that the grant guarantees equal access for all Reykjavík University students to the university’s social life.

The funding enables the association to host a wide range of events, both on and off campus, in which all registered RU students can participate. In this way, the agreement supports greater cohesion, active student engagement, and an improved overall experience of studies and campus life.

This is stated by Særún Björk Jónasdóttir, Chair of SFHR.

Særún also notes that the agreement entails an important change, as it clarifies and streamlines the collaboration between SFHR and RU. The roles of both parties, expectations for cooperation throughout the academic year, and responsibilities and communication structures are clearly defined.

Gréta Matthíasdóttir, Head of Student Services, welcomes the strengthened collaboration and increased student involvement in all aspects of RU’s work.

At Student Services, emphasis is placed on providing strong support and services for students. Part of this involves improving and clarifying communication channels. This agreement is part of ensuring that students have a clear role and a voice in decisions that affect them. We continuously work to improve student facilities and promote inclusion, and SFHR's involvement is key to achieving these goals.

Gréta concludes.
