Bringing innovation to life at Vísindavaka science fair
The science fair Vísindavaka will be held in Laugardalshöll Arena for the general public on Saturday, the 27th of September. As per usual, RU will present an exciting lineup of activities — inviting the youngest visitors to explore their talents and discover what they might want to do in the future.

At Skema, guests can design RU in Minecraft, combine music and programming, learn the basics of game design, and even control robots. RU Racing students will prepare visitors for Formula-style fun, while Systur will host programming workshops. RU Robotics will showcase how science drives robot design, and Frostbyte Lab will demonstrate just how easily a smart home can be hacked — and how to prevent it. Further, the Department of Sport Science will offer hands-on tests with equipment measuring how high you can jump or how strong your grip is.

Skema at Reykjavík University is a pioneer in children’s programming education in Iceland. Úlfur Atlason, Project Manager at Skema, says it’s always a joy to welcome the youngest generation at Vísindavaka and introduce them to the world of technology.
Vísindavaka is where we create a true tech adventure for the whole family, where everyone can try, play, and explore. Visitors can stop by Skema’s stations, which showcase highlights from their courses — from Minecraft building competitions and beginner programming lessons to game design workshops and even making music through coding.
Vísindavaka is open to all ages, with the goal of bringing science closer to people, introducing the minds behind the research, and highlighting the importance of science and innovation in modern society.
There will be plenty to see, try, and experience at Reykjavík University’s exhibition area - we look forward to seeing you there!
