Dr. Anna Sigríður Islind promoted to full professor

The Department of Computer Science proudly announces the promotion of Dr. Anna Sigríður Islind to the rank of full professor. Since joining the department, Dr. Anna Sigga has distinguished herself in every facet of the University’s mission. She has taught at all levels in our curriculum, as well as having advised 8 PhD students (5 as main supervisor), 16 MSc students, and 30 BSc final projects.

She has been prolific and influential in research, having published 109 peer-reviewed works (55 journal articles, 47 conference articles, and 7 book chapters). Moreover, she has secured more than 3 billion ISK in funding to RU as a principal investigator or co-investigator on grant applications. Her close partnerships with industry—particularly within the healthcare sector—have yielded impact inside as well as outside RU. Most recently, she co-designed an innovative study track for physicians at the National University Hospital that integrates artificial intelligence into clinical practice.

The committee, formed by Björn Þór Jónsson (chair), Åsa Cajander from Uppsala University, and Richard Baskerville from Georgia State University, unanimously agreed that Anna Sigga meets all the promotion criteria for a Full Professor laid out by the Department of Computer Science at Reykjavik University and strongly recommends her promotion. In their testimony, it says that Dr. Islind has demonstrated a high degree of research independence and leadership and has a substantial and diverse publication record.

The department is immensely proud to count such an accomplished scholar among its ranks and looks forward to supporting Dr. Anna Sigga’s continued success and growing impact in the years ahead.
