Hugmyndahraðhlaupið held jointly by Gulleggið and Landsbankinn
Hugmyndahraðhlaupið, held jointly by Gulleggið & Landsbankinn, took place at Landsbankinn over the weekend of January 9–10, organised by KLAK – Icelandic Startups. Reykjavík University is one of the owners of KLAK and a sponsor of Gulleggið, Iceland’s largest and longest-running startup competition.
Hugmyndahraðhlaupið is specifically designed to encourage university students to participate and come forward with new and creative ideas. The winning team received a cash prize of ISK 150,000 and is guaranteed a spot among the top ten finalists in the Gulleggið final round.
Teams of university students from across Iceland came together for the Idea Sprint. They were tasked with solving real-world challenges presented by Gulleggið’s sponsors: ELKO, Reykjavík University, KPMG, JBT Marel, and the City of Reykjavík.
Team Orden emerged as the winner, consisting of Haukur Hólm Gunnarsson, a student at the Department of Engineering at Reykjavík University, and Sunna Guðlaugsdóttir and Margeir Haraldsson, students at The University of Bifröst.
The team tackled a challenge from JBT Marel focused on how smaller food producers can utilise automation and smart technological solutions to improve quality and increase efficiency. Orden presented an idea for a software solution that integrates data from various machines and sensors and implements automated reporting. The solution significantly reduces manual work in quality control and certification, a major barrier for smaller companies.
Gulleggið is part of KLAK – Icelandic Startups’ extensive support for entrepreneurs, where expertise, networks, and professional guidance create a platform for innovation and value creation.
