New RU Board of Directors and New University Council Hold Their First Meetings in June

The first meeting of the new Board of Directors of Reykjavík University, elected at RU’s Annual General Meeting on April 29, 2026, took place at the university on Friday, June 12.

Tanya Zharov, a lawyer, is the new Chair of the Board, succeeding Guðbjörg Edda Eggertsdóttir, who is now stepping down from the board. Svafa Grönfeldt, professor and Head of Innovation at MITdesignX, joins the RU Board as a new member. Other board members are Björn Brynjúlfur Björnsson, CEO of the Iceland Chamber of Commerce; Halldór Benjamín Þorbergsson, CEO of Heimar; and Sigurður Hannesson, Director General of the Federation of Icelandic Industries.

The newly appointed Reykjavík University Council also met today at RU. Council members are: Tanya Zharov, lawyer and Chair of the RU Board; Andri Þór Guðmundsson, Chair of the Iceland Chamber of Commerce; Anna Hrefna Ingimundardóttir, Deputy Managing Director of the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise; Borghildur Erlingsdóttir, CEO of the Icelandic Intellectual Property Office; Brynja Baldursdóttir, CEO of Greiðslumiðlun Íslands; Guðmundur Fertram Sigurjónsson, founder of Kerecis; Hjálmar Gíslason, founder and CEO of GRID; Jón Ólafur Halldórsson, Chair of the Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise; Valgerður Hrund Skúladóttir, engineer; and Þorsteinn Víglundsson, Chair of the Federation of Icelandic Industries.
