RU’s Department of Sport Science and UMSK enter into partnership
The Department of Sport Science at Reykjavik University has signed a two-year partnership agreement with the Kjalarnesþing Regional Youth Association (UMSK).
The newly established partnership will involve a Sport Science student conducting a comprehensive study of the working environment within UMSK’s sports clubs.
The aim of the research is to collect data and identify the key factors that can help predict job satisfaction, performance, professional development, and length of service within the participating sports clubs in Iceland.
“Through our partnership with Reykjavík University, UMSK aims to strengthen its ties with the academic community, better share the knowledge already available among our partners, and promote research that will benefit the work of our member clubs in the coming years,” says Victor Ingi Olsen, Operations Manager at UMSK.
Karítas Guðrún receives a scholarship and will begin an internship
Under the agreement, UMSK undertakes to provide Karítas Guðrún Pálsdóttir, a master’s student in Sport Science and Coaching at RU, with a scholarship covering basic tuition fees for two academic years, from the autumn semester of 2026 through the spring semester of 2028.

UMSK also undertakes to host Karítas Guðrún for an unpaid internship during this period and assign her appropriate projects within the association under the supervision of a UMSK staff member.
Under the agreement between RU and UMSK, her internship will be equivalent to 10 ECTS credits.
The Department of Sport Science at RU also undertakes to offer Karítas Guðrún a place in its master’s program under the same financial terms as its undergraduate programs.
Expanded cooperation with ÍSÍ
RU and the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland (ÍSÍ) recently signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening support for elite athletes in their studies.
RU’s Elite Sports Group has been operating for many years and has proven to be an important resource for elite athletes seeking to balance university studies with competitive-level sports.
