Scholarships from industry-linked funds and scholarships for new students 

Awards to recipients of scholarships from industry-linked funds, as well as scholarships for new students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their matriculation examinations, were presented at Sólin at Reykjavik University yesterday, Thursday, August 27. 

Dr. Ragnhildur Helgadóttir, President of RU, delivered an address at the beginning of the ceremony and presented the new student scholarships together with Dr. Bryndís Björk Ásgeirsdóttir, Dean of the School of Social Sciences, and Dr. Ólafur Eysteinn Sigurjónsson, Dean of the School of Technology. 

Scholarships were awarded from Landsbankinn’s Hvatasjóður and the United Contractors’ Study Fund. Sigríður Guðmundsdóttir, Chief Human Resources Officer at Landsbankinn, presented the Hvatasjóður scholarships together with Bryndís and introduced the collaboration between the bank and RU in connection with the fund. Ragnhildur then presented scholarships from the United Contractors’ Study Fund together with Ólafur Eysteinn. 

About the  funds

Landsbankinn – Hvatasjóður 

RU, in cooperation with Landsbankinn, awards scholarships to two students whose first language is not Icelandic and who have achieved good results in secondary school. The purpose of the fund is to promote equal access to education at the university. When selecting scholarship recipients, academic achievement is taken into consideration, along with diversity and students’ participation in other activities, such as sports, extracurricular activities and volunteer work. The scholarship covers tuition fees for the student’s first year of undergraduate study. 

United Contractors’ Study Fund 

Landsbankinn – Hvatasjóður 

The United Contractors’ Study Fund provides scholarships equivalent to one semester’s tuition fees to students studying engineering, technology and computer science at Reykjavík University. The scholarships are intended for students completing a BSc degree who plan to pursue postgraduate studies (MSc or PhD) at Reykjavík University or another university. Students in their final semester of a technology programme may also apply. 

Applications are assessed based on applicants’ academic performance, initiative and determination, motivation letter and references. Participation in activities and work for Reykjavík University, such as student organizations, tutoring and promotional activities, is also taken into consideration.
