SKYNVIN: A New Sensory-Friendly Space for Students at RU
SKYNVIN is a new space that recently opened for students at Reykjavik University. The space is designed as a calm, quiet environment for students who need a moment to withdraw and reset. It currently features rocking chairs, lounge chairs, and tactile items, with additional items planned for future additions.

Sigrún Birgisdóttir, advisor at the Icelandic Autism Association, says the organisation welcomes the opening of the sensory-friendly space:
We are very pleased to have been able to follow the process and that RU approached us for input and ideas during the design of the space. We hope that other schools and institutions will follow RU’s example and create facilities for people with different sensory needs.
Says Sigrún.
Since its founding in 1998, Reykjavik University has placed strong emphasis on personalised services and robust academic support for students. Gréta Matthíasdóttir, Director of Student Services, says SKYNVIN is a good example of how student support continues to evolve and strengthen:
We work continuously to adapt the student environment so that it is supportive and helps students succeed. This is particularly important in a diverse environment such as a large university like RU. We therefore strive to continually improve students’ facilities and surroundings.
Says Gréta.
