The International Girls in ICT day celebrated with Stelpur, stálp og tækni
The international Girls in ICT Day, Stelpur, stálp og tækni, was held on May 23 at Reykjavik University with over 1.200 participants. The event has become one of the university’s largest and most anticipated annual gatherings.
Participants took part in interactive workshops led by RU students, faculty, and alumni, covering a range of topics such as video game design, programming, mathematical optimisation, and student project showcases. In addition to the on-campus activities, several of Iceland’s leading technology companies welcomed groups for onsite visits, including CCP Games, Síminn, Efla, Héðinn, Orkuveitan, Míla, and Marel.
The aim of the event is to introduce participants to careers and education in technology—a sector where women and young women have historically been underrepresented. While there is still progress to be made, it is encouraging to see the growing impact of the event. Many students who were first introduced to the world of technology through this initiative have since chosen to pursue technical studies at RU.

Anna Kristín Sigurðardóttir, Talent Acquisition Specialist at CCP, praises the initiative. She describes the event as an excellent opportunity to discover a wide range of careers in the tech industry, engage with role models, and ask questions in a safe and supportive environment. She notes that the groups have always been enthusiastic and excited about the activities.
At CCP, we have participated for many years to help increase interest in video game development and career opportunities in the industry. These visits are always enjoyable, and the participants are exceptionally enthusiastic and not shy about getting involved. We are also very much looking forward to taking part in Strákar og stálp í háskóla on June 4 and encourage as many as possible to consider a future in the video game industry.

Building on this success, RU will launch a new event on June 4: Strákar og stálp í háskóla. This initiative, also part of the university’s community outreach, is designed to introduce boys and young men to university life and the wide range of academic and career opportunities it offers.

We at Reykjavik University sincerely thank all participants, companies, and partners for their valuable collaboration, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
