Þorrablót for the International Exchange Students
The international exchange students at Reykjavík University tasted Icelandic culture at a Þorrablót celebration. Þorrablót is an Icelandic midwinter festival named for the month of Þorri of the historical Icelandic calendar and blót, meaning sacrifice. Traditional Þorri food was served along with homemade side dishes, all washed down with the authentic Icelandic soda malt og appelsín.

After each course, the students tried to guess what they had just eaten, with varying success in identifying the dishes. It’s safe to say that the food received mixed reactions from the students; however, they all agreed that the experience was valuable, even though not everyone envisioned themselves trying it again.

A group of mentors, Reykjavík University students, have assisted the university’s international office throughout the school year, making every effort to ensure a positive experience for the exchange students. The mentor group organized the Þorrablót, which was held for the first time this year – but hopefully not the last.
