Admission Requirements

The Advanced MPM programme is for those who have completed an undergraduate university degree and show a minimum of 10 months of experience in project management.

How are project management roles defined? 
Many people manage projects in their professional or personal lives without defining them. 

Examples of how a person can fulfil the admission requirements:

Susan: 

  • BSc in Business administration
  • Work experience 6 years as a financial manager 
  • Project management experience: 
    • Implementation of accounting system 
    • Work on the merger of two companies  
    • Chairman of her choir – planned concert tour to Germany  

John:

  • BSc in Food Science 
  • Quality manager at a fish processing company and specialist at Matís 
  • Project management experience: 
    • Development project sponsored by Rannís
    • Responsible for part of an international research project
    • Implementation of a quality management system meeting international standards
    • Volunteer manager of son’s soccer team – organizing team trips

Arnaldur:

  • BSc in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Working at an engineering firm for 9 years 
  • Project management experience: 
    • Team leader in a team of 6, carries out design in larger and smaller civil structures 
    • Folk dance club – key member in organizing a Nordic folk dance tournament 
Application submission

Applications for HR studies are made electronically through the application portal: http://umsoknir.ru.is/. Our team interviews applicants who meet the admission requirements. 

To apply, please submit the following (in English or Icelandic):

  • A detailed resume (CV) including your educational and professional history, accompanied by a recent photograph.
  • Official, certified copies of your academic transcripts and diplomas.
  • A comprehensive report on your experience in project management, as outlined above; submitted through the application portal.
  • A personal statement outlining your future ambitions and how the master's programme aligns with and can aid in achieving these goals. 
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals capable of evaluating your aspiration and potential for success in the programme. Please either include them in your online application or send them directly to the MPM programme administrator via email mpm@ru.is.
  • All applications are handled with strict confidentiality.

The Advanced Master's in Project Management (AMPM) programme at Reykjavík University is committed to fostering a rich learning environment. Application Deadline

The AMPM programme only admits students in the fall semester.

Residents of EU / EEA

  • Application opens: February 15th  
  • Application deadline: June 5th 

Non-EU / EEA residents

  • Application opens: October 15th 
  • Application deadline: January 31st

Tuition fees at Reykjavik University for 2025 - 2026 

The Advanced Master of Project Management programme at Reykjavik University offers:

  • Teaching and mentoring: Students receive access to high-quality onsite, online and hybrid teaching. 
  • Teaching materials: Extensive online resources are available through Reykjavik University´s library, with selected textbooks requiring purchase.
  • On-Site Facilities: During on-site sessions, students have access to modern teaching facilities, designed to provide an optimal learning environment.
  • Support Services: Access to all student support services, ensuring students receive the necessary support for their educational journey.
  • International Certification: Students can gain international certification, adding significant value to their professional qualifications (IPMA-C level, APM-Chpp). 
  • Personal Coaching: Personalized professional coaching, offering tailored guidance and mentorship to enhance students' practical and theoretical understanding of the subject.

These elements contributes to a holistic and supportive educational experience, preparing students not only academically but also professionally for the challenges and opportunities in the field of project management.

International Certifications

Our goal is to equip our students with internationally recognized project management certifications as part of the Advanced Master's in Project Management (AMPM) programme. Depending on your prior experience, you can target one of two levels:

  • IPMA Level C® (Certified Project Manager)
  • IPMA Level B® (Certified Senior Project Manager)
Eligibility Criteria for IPMA Certifications

IPMA Level C® Certification:

  • Experience Requirement: You must show at least three years of project management experience in medium-complexity projects within the last six years. An extension is possible with valid justification.
  • At Application: Candidates need to have led project management roles in moderately complex projects, such as internal projects with at least 5 team members, for a minimum of 10 months during the past six years.
  • During the AMPM programme, You're expected to lead project management in projects of moderate complexity for 18 months. This requirement is waived if you have a total of 36 months of project management experience at the time of application.

IPMA Level B® Certification:

  • Specifically aimed at more experienced project managers, with detailed requirements available upon inquiry.

Accreditation

  • The Advanced MPM programme has successfully met the standards the Association for Project Management (APM) set in the UK for Recognised Assessment towards Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status. Consequently, this recognition enables AMPM graduates to directly apply for and obtain their Chartered Status from APM following their graduation. This distinction provides a significant professional advantage, recognizing the high level of education and expertise achieved through the AMPM programme.

The application deadline for the AMPM programme is February 15 to June 5 for the subsequent fall semester. Applications received after the application deadline may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
