Borgarlína construction at RU has begun

Infrastructure construction for Borgarlína (City Line) along Nauthólsvegur and at Reykjavik University began this morning. The project is scheduled for completion in July 2028 and is part of the first phase of Borgarlína.

The project involves creating dedicated public transport lanes in the centre of the road, separated from general traffic lanes by traffic islands. Cycle paths and pedestrian walkways will also be constructed on both sides of the road.

Emphasis will be placed on minimising the impact of the construction on traffic for all modes of transport.

RU is in ongoing dialogue with all relevant stakeholders regarding the integration of Borgarlína with the university’s student housing and all of its properties along Nauthólsvegur, Menntavegur and Menntasveigur. Impact on accessibility

Access for vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and public transport will be maintained throughout the construction period through temporary diversions.

One lane in each direction will remain open throughout the construction period. Connections will be made to the paths in Öskjuhlíð, and Strætó bus stops will remain open throughout the construction period, although they will be relocated as the work progresses.
